Lee and Caroline Portnoi have visited Ethiopia a number of times, and have seen first-hand the transformational difference that the Haber-funded work has already made. But there is still much more to be done, and to this end they are actively seeking partners who will join Haber in funding the schools, water supplies, health facilities and – as of 2016 – the emergency food aid that the communities so desperately need.
As you will read on this website, all of the administrative costs of the projects are funded by the founders of A Glimmer of Hope. Haber’s first co-sponsors were The Band Aid Charitable Trust. Haber matched the Band Aid gift and funded construction of classrooms at the school in Daereta, Tigray.
Following this Haber received a substantial donation from The Waterloo Foundation and this amount was matched by Haber to fund critical water and education projects in Tigray, Ethiopia.
In December 2015, pupils at Little Reddings Primary School, Bushey, proved that every amount raised helps. They recorded a cover of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?‘ and raised £3,500 through sales of the single. This amount was also matched by Haber, and the £7,000 is being put to good use funding a water well.
Lee and Caroline Portnoi welcome other like-minded philanthropists to join Haber in supporting this much needed and very impressive work.
